Advent Devotional: Day 13

“Behold, God is my salvation; I will trust and will not be afraid; for the Lord God is my strength and my song, and He has become my salvation.”  Isaiah 12:2 ESV

Isaiah and David understood something about God that is at times missing in our modern day. “God is ________.”  They could identify who God was to them at any given time.  We fail to see God in ways that those in Biblical times did, especially in the Old Testaments. We have distractions that were designed to hold our attention.  Technology has its perks, but at a price.  They lived a family-oriented life: one that included traditions passed down from generations. Daily prayers were spoken while the family gathered. Life was hard but they seem to include God in their lives.  Yes, at times there were idols, which were their distractions.

Our key verse is a fill in the blank kind of verse.  God is_____: my strength, my song or praise, my salvation, my provider.  When I list what God is in this verse, my heart leaps. I can see Him for who He is not what He can be. The provider of my salvation points me to Christ.

So many times lately I have asked God where He is. My anxious thought have so clouded my heart that I feel God is hidden.  Imagine seven hundred years of expectation, looking for what God promised: three hundred of those years they heard messages from prophets, instructions on living God’s way. Then they heard nothing. The wondering would lead so many places, some of which I think we experience today.

“Come, Jesus, Come” is a cry of the heart because of the world around us.  It is a cry of a heart in desperation desiring change. It is a plea of a loved one watching another suffer. “Come, Jesus, Come” is my heart begging for His presence right beside me to give me strength, courage, and peace.  “Come, Jesus, Come” is my answer to my “I give up” mentality when my life overwhelms me.  “Come, Jesus, Come” is a moment of hope my heart sings.  It is the desire to reconnect with the One who saved me.

How does “Come, Jesus, Come” offer you peace?  How can trusting Him in those heartfelt moments you need Him to Come change your anxious heart?
